Snowy Mountains
One of NSW's major assets is that it has just about everything. The Snowy Mountains area south of the ACT is its alpine region, alive with snow seekers in winter and captivating with wildflowers in summer.
The snow season officially starts at the beginning of June and finishes in early October. Each of the Snowies' four major snowfields has its own character and particular specialty and amongst them you'll find great skiing and snowboarding, magnificent scenery, warm lodges, and a thriving nightlife.
Summer in the Snowies is a time for bushwalking, camping, horse riding and water sports. Whether you're out for a gentle stroll or an energetic hike, walking is one of the best ways to enjoy the scenery and the benefit of the crisp mountain air. And since you're in the home of The Man from Snowy River, you can be sure that horse riding here is special, whether you're new to the game or highly experienced.
The rivers of the Snowy Mountains flow through some of the most remote country in the Kosciusczko National Park. Paddle a kayak on their gentler reaches or join a tour for the adrenalin of white water rafting. Lake Jindabyne and Lake Eucumbene are ideal for sailing, water skiing, wake-boarding and windsurfing. Or, you might like to indulge in a soothing dip in the thermal pool at Yarrangobilly Caves south of Tumut.
