Clare Valley & Mid-North SA

This region is classic farmland, the beauty of pastoral country at its best. Situated to the north of Adelaide, it is a great place for a quick retreat or a leisurely wander away from the city.

The wine region of the Clare valley stretches from Auburn in the south to Clare in the north, taking in the delightful historic villages of Mintaro, Seven Hill, Penwortham and Watervale, with many wineries and fine restaurants where you can sample the fine local food and wine.

The town of Burra in the east of the Mid North region was declared a State Heritage town in 1994. Once a copper town, it is now simply a fascinating place to visit. The Local Tour program provides you with a Heritage Passport (and key) to the 43 heritage sites in its itinerary. Its Market Square featured in the movie Breaker Morant.

Kapunda in the south is also a copper town. It's claimed that the million pounds' worth of copper produced at Kapunda saved the struggling colony of South Australia from bankruptcy.

The north of the region provided the state with wealth of another kind. The Collinsville Stud near Hallett is one of the most prestigious merino studs in Australia.
