The City of Adelaide is unique among Australian state capitals in that it was planned. Lying between Gulf St Vincent and the Mt Lofty Ranges, Adelaide is a charming city of wide streets and open parklands beside the slow-flowing waters of the River Torrens – a city of good food, fine wine and festivals. The Adelaide Festival of Arts is one of the world's best known and most innovative arts festivals and the Adelaide Fringe Festival is second in size only to Edinburgh.

But culture isn't Adelaide's only attraction. You can laze on the beach or swim with dolphins at Glenelg, visit the Southern Hemisphere's largest undercover market near Chinatown, wallow in chocolate at the Haigh Chocolate Visitor Centre or test your skill at virtual wine making at the National Wine Centre of Australia.

The first vines in South Australia were planted in the Adelaide Hills in 1839. The region now produces some of the best cool-climate wines in Australia in a region worth visiting for the scenery alone. Delightful small villages in leafy landscapes, award-winning cellar doors and restaurants, warm fires in winter and berries in spring make this a year-round treat only a few minutes from Adelaide.
