Eyre Peninsula & The Nullarbor
From its 2000 km of spectacular coastline to the rolling hills and rugged ranges of its hinterland, the Eyre Peninsula guarantees relaxation and tranquillity, far from the madding crowd.
The region begins on the western shores of Spencer Gulf and stretches 1000 km to the border with WA. It includes delightful seaside towns on sweeping surf beaches or sheltered bays, the spectacular wilderness area of the Gawler Ranges and an intriguing taste of the ancient Nullarbor Plain.
Exploring the cliffs, bays and beaches of the Eyre Peninsula is rewarding whichever way you do it, but for an extra dimension you can now take the self-drive Seafood and Aquaculture Trail between Whyalla and Ceduna where you'll see everything from oysters and abalone to blue fin tuna and seahorses being caught, farmed or processed in a string of attractive towns such as Port Lincoln, Tumby Bay, Streaky Bay and Ceduna.
National parks in the area include Gawler Ranges, Coffin Bay, Lake Newland and Lincoln. And for something different, there's Nullarbor National Park and Regional Reserve. The Nullarbor may appear featureless, but in fact it supports an extensive network of sinkholes, blowholes and underground caverns as well as a range of wildlife. The view of Southern Ocean from 200 km of 80 m high cliffs is quite spectacular.
