        East Coast Tasmania

Head north from the Tasman Peninsula, or northeast from Hobart, for some of the state's best beaches, abundant wildlife, juicy seafood, fascinating dive sites and most accessible wilderness areas. The East Coast is also the warmest region of the state.

Maria Island National Park is a great introduction to the area, with a good cross-section of everything on offer – sweeping bays and rugged cliffs, historic ruins and friendly wildlife, peaceful bushwalks and aquatic adventure. The island has no cars, no transport and no shops.

Further north is Freycinet National Park, where you'll find the perfect curve of Wineglass Bay set against the pink granite of the Hazards Mountains. The entire Freycinet Peninsula is one of Tasmania's most popular wilderness beauty spots: the perfect contrast of land and sea, the richness of its flora and fauna and the abundant opportunities for exploration and adventure.

Despite its popularity, Freycinet remains unspoiled. Everything your gourmet heart could desire can be found in the surrounding district.

The other side of the area's scenic coin is Ben Lomond National Park, its steep cliffs and mountain passes conserving the glacial features and flora communities of Tasmania's alpine region. Ben Lomond is also the state's best developed ski field.
